Practice Placement 1

The aims of this module is to enable the student to develop professionally as a reflective practitioner by applying the theories and concepts learned in the classroom to the social care environment; help the student to understand the importance of the professional-client relationship, and promote the self-development of the student’s personal awareness and critiquing skills which will assist reflective practice.As practicum is an ongoing and dynamic subject the syllabus content will be expanded or modified as the case may be, to reflect developments in social care knowledge and practice set out in this module. Students must pass both components and the required 75% attendance in Professional Practice 1 to attend this module.

Preparation for Placement and Portfolio

Purpose and function of practice placement, role and responsibilities of: • Student • Placement Centre and Practice Supervisor • The College and College Tutor Professional; Development of learning goals; Examine potential problems, difficulties and conflict in practice placement; Identify supports including supervision and self-care; Identify assessment and portfolio process

Development of Knowledge and Skills

The Placement affords the student the opportunity to “test out “their knowledge and skills within the safety of a well-structured and supervised work setting with the direction of an experienced, competent professional. Students are expected to be supernumerary to the staff complement of the work centre.

Personal and Professional Development

Reflect on and demonstrate development in self-awareness, reflection, supervision, CPD and proficiencies
