This module builds on the calculus and statistics covered in previous modules. The module focuses on integral calculus, first order differential equations and statistics.
The aim of the module is to introduce integral calculus, differential equations and statistics. The module aims to apply mathematics and statistics to the students’ course work in Industrial and Environmental Physics.
Integral Calculus
Rules of Integration, integration for finding the area under the curve, integration by substitution, integration by parts and integration by partial fractions.
Differential Equations
Occurrence of first order differential equations, separable equations, homogeneous equations and integrating factor.
Statistics
Chi-squared tests, correlation coefficients and linear regression.
This module will be taught through lectures with physics applications provided by the School of Physics.
