To provide the student, through work experience, the opportunity to acquire skills and develop an understanding of his/her prospective role as a professional in the hospitality and tourism sector.
Preparation for placement
Students must attend workshops that are offered by the placement co-ordinator, in collaboration with university careers office, which prepare them for placements as follows:CV preparation and drafting of CVs,Interview skills and presentation of oneself in a professional context,Getting to know oneself,Mock interviews and feedback,Seminars dealing with teamwork and diversity in the workplace.Training on Student Diary Pro and reflective diarys
Guest Lectures
Students will be offered the opportunity to attend presentations from professionals currently working in the sector and past students who have completed a placement in the Hospitality Industry.
During placement
There will at least one visit to the workplace made by a member of the IHTM team.On-going monitoring will take place through tutorials and the use of Student Diary Pro.
Post Placement
Interns to submit portfolio of work experienceHave students present their projects and findings to faculty staff
This module will include workshops, tutorials, and guest lectures in advance of student placement. Each student will be assigned a mentor who will guide them through their placement. Regular meetings with students and mentors to set goals, monitor progress and provide feedback.
