Placement settings include industrial or state labs or a research laboratory.  The Placement may also be on the basis of an Erasmus Mobility Placement.  The student will be informed of the benefits of placement. The timescale and methods of application will be outlined.

The student is required to prepare for placement.  Placement application documents (including CV and cover letter), procedure, sequence and interview techniques are explored.

All students are required to attend the placement presentations by students returning from Placement in September and must provide a short reflective piece on what type of placement they would prefer and the reasons why they have chosen the particular placement. Engagement with academic coordinators in the school is essential for this process.  Students must attempt to find and secure their own international placement in the first instance and academic staff may advise students during this process.

Students must provide adequate information including contact details to the academic coordinator in the school. The academic coordinator (or other member of academic staff) will meet with the placement host supervisor during the placement period to observe progress and to ensure that the placement is progressing successfully. Where site visits are not practical, meetings can take an online format.

The students must submit a report and presentation at the end of the placement.  The latter is delivered by oral presentation in September.

This module is delivered through a combination of lectures, workshops and individual engagement and meetings with the academic placement coordinator in the School and with the placement host supervisors.
