The Collaborative Design Practice Studio provides students with an opportunity to produce design solutions as part of a team, using a complex ‘live’ project as the vehicle for learning. The module will enable participants to learn management, professional, and team-building skills. The learning outcomes of the module include: collaborative management of a complex design process, analysing and interpreting project requirements, leading a team, responding to external specialists, and managing the impact of technical and practical constraints.
Through a series of focused design exercises the student is brought through a typical design process with specific outputs focused on a particular design project. The design project subject is variable and dependent on contemporary opportunities and concerns, with a mix of solution scales and structural challenges, with complex spatial arrangements and uses and is required to accommodate current and future regulations, new technologies, and renewable strategies. Adaptive reuse projects will also be encouraged. Each individual will share the various leadership roles available over the course of the semester.
