TU Dublin Business Lecturer inducted into McNeese State University Hall of Fame

Tom McGrath, Business lecturer at TU Dublin was inducted into the McNeese Sports Hall of Fame on  Saturday, September 28, 2019.  The induction ceremony was held at the University prior to the home football game between McNeese State University and Sam Houston State University. 

Tom and his wife Catherine made the trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana, earlier this year, for this special occasion.

Speaking about his achievement, Tom said, "I took up running at 20 years old while working as a civil servant in Dublin, I never expected this would have such an impact on my personal and professional life. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame was a great honour and gave me the opportunity to re-visit a time and place that shaped my future" 

Tom was a track and cross country scholarship athlete at McNeese State University from 1987-91.  During his four years at McNeese he won the Conference title in the 5000m in 1988 and won both the 5000m and the 10,000m titles in his senior year in 1991.  He held the school record time for the 10,000m from 1988 until 2008.

Tom was a regular top scorer on the cross country team from 1987 to 1990.  He was the individual winner of the Conference title in 1988 and helped the team win the title in 1989.

Tom graduated from McNee Save and approve se State University with a B.Sc. In Accounting in 1991 and an MBA in 1995.

After his college career, Tom went on to represent Ireland at the World cross country championships, European cross country championships and numerous other international competitions.
