English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6.0 overall (or equivalent).

Academic staff delivering this course include the Chief Expert for World Skills Cloud Computing in Shanghai 2021, as well as a member of AWS Academy’s World Advisory Board. So students can be assured they are getting the latest and best cloud computing curriculum. Like all our Computing courses, this uses a common Year 1 where you develop essential skills and get to understand your particular strengths.

The advantage of this is that you may choose your specialisation again at the end of Year 1. Stick with your original specialisation or move to a specialisation in Software Development/IT Management/AI & ML. There is no better course to launch your career in cloud computing, an areas of fast development where companies are looking for critical skills.

Study Abroad Opportunities

Students have the option of spending on semester 6 abroad in one of our partner colleges/ companies in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Spain and Mexico.

Work Placement

A six-month long internship in Year 3 is part of the course and gives you a real advantage giving you industry experience and contacts. With around one hundred students placed annually, the list of placement companies is extensive and includes major users of Cloud Skills such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft, SAP, Fidelity & Bank of America.

Students on this course will participate in a 6-8 month work placement in the third year of the course. The process is summarised as follows:

In September, the company contacts the placement coordinator with a job description. In the subsequent weeks, CVs of student candidates are sent to the company and from this, suitable candidates are selected for interview. A job offer will be made to the successful candidate through the placement coordinator. In December, the company liaises with student to finalise the contract. Students will commence their placement from mid‐January. The placement coordinator visits the student in May/June. The student returns to college in September.

To qualify for Advanced Entry applicants must be currently studying, completing, or have successfully completed, studies at Level 6, 7 or 8 in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or an equivalent, in a related area. You must demonstrate by providing transcripts of results that you have achieved the learning outcomes for each stage you wish to advance past, for example:

• To enter Year 2 via Advanced Entry, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Year 1.
• For entry to Year 3, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1 and 2.
• For entry to Year 4, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1, 2, and 3.

I chose this course due to the open day the college had. There was talk about the course from Barry Feeney who explain the possibilities that can arise from taking this course which, I found appealing. I wanted to go to a college that has small classes so I can get help from lectures if I didn't understand something which I knew would be important due to my dyslexia.

The best thing about this course, is the ability to feel comfortable no matter what the situation was. In terms of lectures & labs I always felt I could ask the lectures anything I didn't understand or wanted to go over. The work placement is very appealing for when picking this course. The commitment from Sean McHugh was outrageous. Sean went above and beyond for every student. All the lecturers I have come in contact throughout 4 years deserve a pat on the back for putting up with me. They all have helped with grasping an understanding of IT. The best thing about being a student is the friendless about the college. There is a group of friends for everyone with regards the clubs and society's allowing you to find friends who are similar to yourself.

I am currently working as a Service Engineer at Microsoft, monitoring the health of SharePoint Online and mitigating customer impacting availability issues. It is a new role in IT, a cloud based role. In my role we need team work, communication, time management, ability to approach complex issues and break them down into different basic troubleshooting steps to establish a better understanding.

In my job I enjoy the diversity, working with people from all walks of life. The systems we are working are very important and can be impacted by global issues affecting many large customers. It is a well-paid role with good working conditions, though the work can be challenging.

I did a Level 5 QQI course before coming to college which helped me understand the area. The reward and return on investment of the BSc Honours is invaluable. The hard work has been more than worth it and although there are new things to study from time to time due to the nature of the industry, this is exciting and can have a direct positive impact on your work.

TU Dublin really helped me get going, during my 6 month placement with Microsoft in 3rd year I was offered a 6 month probationary contract in a small company, I continued for the 4th year and started as an intern in Microsoft immediately after finishing.

After graduation, I worked as an intern for 12 months and then was offered a permanent position. One year on I received a promotion to a different level and I have been permanent for over 2 years now. I am still learning every day and I believe I have an excellent career ahead of me. My advice is be confident. We have the skills and qualifications from the course to equip us for any starting position out there.
